TLDR: I started grad school!
“I don’t think you’re used to doing things because you WANT to.”
That’s what my therapist told me as I agonized over the decision of whether or not to pursue a second graduate degree to become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
He was right. Cults don’t want you to think about what you want or what is meaningful to you. They only want you accomplishing their own agenda.
But I took the plunge and starting taking six hours a semester in fall 2023, and I’m loving it. I plan to finish around the time my oldest child (who I’m homeschooling) graduates highschool.
That same fall, I did another thing I’d wanted to do for a long time: I got a psychological evaluation and was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. These diagnoses have helped me in my healing journey of getting to know myself better and of extending myself more self-compassion.
Grad school has definitely lessened my free time, and the energy that I put into Substack has been channeled into research papers. Still, I’m hoping to get back to writing here again because I think this is the most exciting part yet of finding my way—moving forward into creating the life I want.
So happy to hear this!
I love hearing all of this!!
